How to Make Homemade Breakfast Bars for Kids

Breakfast bars are a fast and easy way to feed kids on busy mornings. However, some of the breakfast bars sold in stores are high in sugar as well as high in price. They may include ingredients the picky eaters in your family don't like, along with chemicals and preservatives you would rather avoid.

Homemade breakfast bars are an easy and affordable alternative. The recipe is easily adjusted to suit the tastes of your family members, and the list of ingredients includes many things you probably already have on hand.

Things You'll Need
- 9-inch pan
- Cooking oil spray
- 1 cup peanut butter or almond butter
- 1 to 1½ cups toasted almonds
- ¼ to ½ cup raisins or other dried fruit
- ¾ cup honey
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups old fashioned oats

Step 1 Preheat to 350 degrees.

Step 2 Coat a 9-inch baking pan with canola oil cooking spray.

Step 3 Combine nut butter and honey in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Whisk for 3 to 5 minutes or until melted.

Step 4 Add cinnamon, vanilla, almonds, oats and raisins or other dried fruits. Stir to combine.

Step 5 Transfer mixture to the oiled 9-inch baking pan.

Step 6 Bake for 15 minutes. Let cool, and cut into individual bars.
