The layers of a wedding cake without tiers are all the same size. This gives the cake a uniform shape, such as a large circle or rectangle. The surface of such a cake leaves plenty of room on which to decorate. While there are many ways to accent a wedding cake, simple decorations save money and time. They also are easier to work with than elaborate ones, especially for beginners.
Things You'll Need
- White buttercream frosting
- Spatula
- Paper icing tube
- Round icing nozzle, 1 inch
- White sugar flowers, 1 inch
Cover the top of a cooled cake with a moderate amount of frosting. Place a second cooled cake over the first. Use a spatula to cover the sides of the cake with a heavy amount of frosting. Even out the frosting with the side of the spatula, thinning it slightly as you create a smooth surface. Cover the top of the cake with a heavy amount of frosting and smooth with the spatula.
Attach the nozzle to the icing tube. Fill the tube with buttercream frosting. Squeeze a dot of frosting along the bottom of the cake. Press a sugar flower over the dot of frosting. Repeat process to create a solid trim of flowers around the bottom of the cake.
Squeeze a dot of frosting along the top of the cake’s side. Press a sugar flower over the dot of frosting. Repeat this process to create a solid trim of flowers around the top of the cake’s side.
Outline a large heart shape, or your shape of choice, on top center of the cake with buttercream frosting. Press sugar flowers into the shape's outline. You also could outline small hearts in each corner of the cake top and decorate them with sugar flours. Chill the cake until serving time.
