How to Make Balsamic Vinegar Reduction Sauce

Making a simple balsamic reduction sauce is an easy way to add flavor to any dish. From vegetables to pasta, pizza, meat and even desserts, you can use this sauce in numerous applications to add sweetness, richness and tang. All you need in order to get started is balsamic vinegar and a skillet. It takes just under 10 minutes from start to finish to prepare this go-to sauce.


Things You'll Need
-  Balsamic vinegar
-  Measuring cup
-  Small skillet

Step 1: Measure Your Balsamic Reduction
Gauge how much balsamic reduction sauce you need, and pour two to three times that volume of balsamic vinegar in a small skillet. For instance, if you need 1/4 cup balsamic reduction, start with 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar.


Step 2: Bring Balsamic Vinegar to a Full Boil
Place the skillet of balsamic vinegar over medium-high heat and allow it to come to a full boil.


Step 3: Cook at a Controlled Boil
Once the vinegar has reached a full boil, reduce the heat slightly (to medium) and allow it to cook at a controlled boil until reduced by half, about 5 to 8 minutes. For a thicker, syrupy consistency, allow vinegar to reduce to 1/3 its original volume, about 8 to 10 minutes.


Drizzle Over Food and Enjoy
It's as easy as that! Use your balsamic reduction sauce on a variety of foods and dishes such as roasted vegetables, beef, chicken, green or grain salads, ice cream sundaes, brownies and pizza.



Tip
To make a flavored balsamic reduction, add spices and/or fresh or dried fruit, such as cinnamon, blackberries, and raspberries.
