Ramen noodles are affordable, fast and easy to make, which explains their vast popularity as a convenience food. A staple across college campuses, instant ramen noodles were invented in Japan, but originated in China. The are simply wheat noodles that are cooked in a meat or vegetable broth, but the iconic instant ramen noodles found prominently in the United States are pre-cooked, dehydrated and packaged in small blocks. Typically, ramen noodles are cooked on the stove top, but you can also make them in a coffee machine carafe when a stove is not available.

Clean the coffee machine filter basket and carafe thoroughly, ensuring there are no lingering coffee grounds.
Break up the ramen noodles while they are still inside the package. You don't want to turn the noodles to dust, but simply break them into smaller chunks that cook evenly.
Add the broken ramen noodles to the coffee machine carafe. Sprinkle the seasoning packet over the noodles. Stir to combine.
Add approximately 2 cups of water to the water reservoir in the back of the coffee machine. You need just enough water to cover the noodles.
Add your choice of fresh vegetables to the filter basket, if desired. This step is optional, but the filter basket can be used as a steamer basket so you can add healthy vegetables to your ramen meal. Broccoli florets, peppers, onions, mushrooms and sugar peas are among the vegetables you can steam. The vegetables remain slightly crunchy.
Turn the coffee machine on and allow the heated water to drip through the filter basket and into the carafe with the ramen noodles. Leave the carafe on the hot burner for three to five minutes to cook the noodles, stirring occasionally.
Pour the noodles and liquid into a bowl. Top with the optional steamed vegetables.
